Volunteering with us

Bankstown Canterbury Community Transport (BCCT) services are provided by both volunteer and paid team members. Our volunteers come from a wide range of professional, personal, and cultural backgrounds. The one thing they all have in common is a desire to support those in need.

Volunteering with BCCT is a great opportunity to learn skills and gain experience and offers a number of personally and professionally rewarding experiences by enabling you to:

Volunteer Positions 

Vehicle Assistants: We are looking for volunteers to accompany and assist clients on our vehicles for social outings and shopping services. Duties may include helping clients in and out of the vehicle, carrying shopping bags, assisting to reach groceries on shelves, pushing wheelchairs and communicating with clients who speak different languages. 

Drivers 

We are looking for volunteers to drive clients in our vehicles for trips, social outings and shopping services. Other duties may include helping clients in and out of the vehicle, pushing wheelchairs and communicating with clients who speak different languages. 

Vehicle assistants 

We are looking for volunteers to accompany and assist clients on our vehicles for social outings and shopping services. Duties may include helping clients in and out of the vehicle, carrying shopping bags, assisting to reach groceries on shelves, pushing wheelchairs and communicating with clients who speak different languages. 

Office & Admin assistants 

Various admin support roles are available for volunteers looking to assist in our office. These may include one or more of the following: reception desk, answering phones, taking client bookings, translation for non-English speaking clients, filing, light computer work, and general office duties. 

Committee Members 

If you would like to join our Management Committee, the general public are welcome to apply for nomination. Committee members are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. Nomination forms are available through the office. 

All community transport volunteers are provided with a clearly defined position description, support and training.

Student Placement 

BCCT openly welcomes students seeking work experience or TAFE work placement. We have a good relationship with local TAFE’s and Universities and regularly take in student volunteers. We especially love bi-lingual students, or those studying aged or disability care. BCCT is a friendly and welcoming environment with a great attitude towards training. Contact us for more information.
